Here is my portion of the stuffed toy drive thanks to Becca Doten, the recently appointed Mayor's Crisis Response Team director. She led a drive in cooperation with L.A.P.D. that resulted in 2500 stuffed animals. They were given to us and then we talked about the situations in which we might want to give them to children on a call. Then came the members' stories of calls they have experienced. Tragedies involving children seeing and experiencing loss of unimaginable proportions.
Today I found myself in a foul mood, angry and without mercy or restraint. The discussion about calls CRT responded to and what the children had to endure was heartbreaking and broke me a little today.
My wish is that I get to sign up more this coming year and that there are fewer fatalities involving children, period, whether victim or witness. It made me more determined to be available for CRT. Especially in increasing my skill to serve best and most benefit those we are assisting on calls.
The bears were distributed at the Central Bureau meeting on Sunday night. It was the best Central Bureau meeting I had ever attended. It was formal yet warm and bonding, it had an agenda filled by a team building exercise that was extremely helpful. I'm proud of what this new director and those team members closely involved in her efforts to develop the team have accomplished so far.
I'm very excited about becoming involved with them again, especially about training to be an On Call Manager. I love these people like a precious treasure and want to keep up my commitment to support and strengthen our service to Los Angeles residents when they need the tremendous compassion of the Crisis Response Team the most at a horrible, likely worst moment in life. Who wouldn't want to treasure and preserve such a group of human beings!
Thank you to all devoted CRT members for your tremendous work and awe inspiring hearts! Kudos to Becca for a wildly successful teddy bear drive and inspiring development of CRT!

I hope not to squander this life on anything less than love. And what do I mean by love? Think fierce love. Love that cuts to the core, that burns away all nonsense in an instant to get at what is most human. M+
